Magnesium oxide

- Jan 22, 2019-

Magnesium oxide (chemical formula: MgO) is an oxide of magnesium, an ionic compound. It is a white solid at room temperature. Magnesium oxide exists in the form of periclase in nature and is a raw material for magnesium smelting.

1. One of the main uses of magnesium oxide is as a flame retardant. Traditional flame retardant materials, flame retardant mixtures of halogen-containing polymers or halogen-containing flame retardants are widely used.

2. Another use of magnesium oxide can be used as a neutralizing agent, magnesium oxide is alkaline, and has good adsorption performance. It can be used as a neutralizing agent for acid-containing waste gas, wastewater treatment, heavy metal and organic waste liquid treatment, etc. With the improvement of environmental protection requirements, domestic demand has grown rapidly.

3. The finely divided magnesia can be used as an optical coating. The coating is transparent when the coating thickness is between 300 nm and 7 mm. The 1 mm thick coating has a refractive index of 1.72.

4, for rock climbing purposes, can absorb sweat, (Note: inhalation of magnesium oxide smoke can cause metal smoke sickness.)

5, mainly used to formulate internal medicine to neutralize excessive gastric acid. Commonly used preparations are: magnesium milk-emulsion; magnesium cover sheets--each piece contains MgO 0.1g; acid-dissolved powder--a mixture of magnesium oxide and sodium hydrogencarbonate.

6. Light magnesium oxide is mainly used as raw material for preparing ceramics, enamels, refractory crucibles and refractory bricks. Also used as a filler for polishing agents and paper, as a promoter and activator for neoprene and fluororubber.

The above is the explanation for the use of magnesium oxide. I hope everyone can understand that although this substance is used in many ways, it must not be used for consumption, otherwise it will easily cause harm to the body.
