In 2017, Vietnam planted nearly 970,000 hectares of rubber and more than 100 processing plants. With the continuous expansion of planting area and production, Vietnam has become the world's third largest natural rubber exporter after Thailand and Malaysia, accounting for 8.1% of the world's total rubber production. Vietnam's related associations report that natural rubber materials, rubber products, rubber wood and products are considered to be the three main export products of the sector. In 2017, the total exports of the three groups of products exceeded US$6.4 billion, accounting for 5.4% of the country's total exports.
In 2018, China continued to be Vietnam's largest rubber export market. In the first five months, Vietnam's rubber exports totaled 442,300 tons, up 22.6% year-on-year; exports reached US$647 million, down 8.4% year-on-year. Vietnam’s exports to China in the second half of the year are still on the rise.
